Are you looking for a way to improve your leadership skills as a dental professional?
Dr. Hendrik Lai is the co-founder of Sage Dental Consulting, a company that helps dentists optimize internal processes while leveraging scalable solutions for maximum growth.
Hendrik believes that effective leadership in dentistry is about picking different leadership styles depending on the specific follower you're trying to lead.
However, he also points out that there is a noticeable Dunning Kruger effect in dentistry when it comes to business. In other words, dentists are pretty aware of their level of competency regarding technical things like implant placement or wisdom tooth extraction. But when it comes to leadership, they tend to feel confident even though their competency may be lacking. So, what makes a good leader in dentistry?
Hendrik explains that the first step to becoming a better leader is to be aware of the different leadership models and know your natural leadership style.
For example, some people are task-oriented leaders, which means they are skilled at managing teams in crises, making fast decisions, and doing whatever it takes to complete a particular task.
On the other hand, relationship-oriented leaders focus on learning about their teams, personal lives, and interests. These types of leaders are great at building cohesive teams and maintaining morale.
So, knowing your natural leadership style is one of the best ways to become a better and more efficient leader. However, as mentioned before, adjusting your leadership style to the specific follower is essential.
Fortunately for you, we discuss all about it in this week's episode of 'The Raving Patients Podcast!'
Hendrik joins me to discuss contemporary theories of leadership and how these can be effectively applied to obtain a competitive position in the industry.
