Google My Business is an undeniably convenient tool for boosting your digital marketing strategies and scaling your practice. However, many dentists still don't know how Google My Business works, and to be fair, it can be challenging to figure out at first.
For example, let's take a look at how Google decides which dental practices to place first on Google Maps. When somebody searches for a dentist by Googling something like 'best dentists near me,' Google is not gathering the data to put in Google Maps directly from your practice's website - but from your Google My Business listing.
So, does this mean that optimizing your listing makes more sense than optimizing your website?
Well, not exactly. If you want to rank higher in the Google Map, you need to optimize both your website and your Google My Business listing - which does, in fact, link to your website.
We've covered some website optimization techniques and best practices in the podcast before, which you can find here. But what about optimizing your Google My Business listing?
The first step to optimizing your listing is to claim it and verify it. The process is pretty straightforward - you search your name, find your listing, and look for a button that says 'Manage this listing' or 'Claim this listing.'
Once you've verified your business, you'll get access to your account at business.google.com, where you'll be able to optimize it further.
