5 Simple Steps To Protect Your Dental Practice Against Ransomware Attacks | Amy Wood

As ransomware attacks and data breaches keep increasing, implementing proper cybersecurity measures is becoming increasingly crucial for dental practices. Failing to do so might put your dental practice's data at serious risk. Fortunately, there are a few simple strategies you can adopt to protect your practice from hackers!

Amy Wood is a best-selling author, speaker, consultant, and coach. She has a background in Healthcare Information Technology and has spent the last decade as a HIPAA Educator, Risk Assessor, and Data Breach Consultant.

Amy believes cybersecurity has become increasingly more important due to the proliferation of data breaches and ransomware. It's no secret that dental practices are a common target for hackers. Yet, unfortunately, many dental professionals have not woken up to the fact that ransomware is almost entirely preventable with the current standard of care for security.

For example, many dental practices still use free antivirus software, which is way easier to hack than business-grade antivirus.

A business-grade firewall will ensure that your data will be locked and secure, compared to a router with no firewall in place. You could think of the router and firewall as a Walmart greeter and an armed security guard.

If you asked the greeter where to find ammo for your gun, he'd gladly show you the way. But an armed security guard will be more suspicious and ask questions before determining whether you can come in or not. So, investing in business-grade antivirus software is a small investment that can make a huge difference.

The good news is that implementing proper cybersecurity measures is easier than you think, and we talk all about it in this week's episode of 'The Raving Patients Podcast'!

Today, Amy joins me to share five easy steps to protect your dental practice against ransomware attacks. We discuss the difference between HIPAA and cybersecurity, how to avoid HIPAA violations when responding to reviews, and the best way to create backups. Tune in to learn more!

We also discuss how HIPAA can protect your practice from cyber incidents and data breaches and streamline your technology to make an effective and profitable practice.
